What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a cap that covers the entire surface of a tooth down to the gum line. This provides a tooth with an added layer of protection to prevent additional damage. Crowns are versatile and can be used for several purposes, like:

  • Repairing a large area of decay
  • Protecting a chipped or fractured tooth
  • Covering an unattractive tooth
  • Supporting a dental bridge
  • Protecting a tooth after a root canal

A crown can serve you for many years with the correct care, like brushing and flossing. Your dentist will create a personalized treatment plan to rehabilitate your tooth using the most advanced solutions in restorative dentistry.

The Dental Crown Process

Traditionally, the process of placing a crown involved multiple appointments, a temporary restoration, and a messy impression. However, our office uses CEREC crowns, so you can get the restoration you need in a single appointment.

Dr. Kassem will prep your tooth for your restoration and use a digital impression process to get the measurements necessary to create your crown. Your dentist will use CAD/CAM technology to design your restoration to look like your real teeth. The information is sent to our in-office milling machine, where it will be cut from a single block of ceramic material in about 1 hour. Your crown will be cemented to your tooth, and you'll walk out of our office with a healthy, beautiful smile. There's no need for a temporary restoration or a second appointment.

The Benefits of Getting a Dental Crown

A crown is a long-lasting solution to protect a tooth, preventing it from needing to be extracted down the road. Our office uses ceramic materials for a biocompatible solution. There's no risk of allergic reactions or metal sensitivities. Although your crown will be metal-free, it will be durable to last for 10 years or more with the proper care. Only a trained dental professional will know your crown is not a real tooth because it will match the color, size, and shape of your natural teeth.

Thanks to CEREC technology, you'll enjoy a streamlined process when getting your restoration with less room for error. Your crown will fit like a glove for maximum function, comfort, and aesthetics.

If you need a dental crown, don't settle for less than the best. Invest in the high-quality restoration you need using state-of-the-art technology. Request an appointment online or call our office at (856) 341-9472.
